Pompeo’s staff cracks down on ‘correct use of commas’ at State Dept

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged his staff to make sure the State Department is properly using commas, according to emails obtained by CNN

CNN reported Wednesday that Pompeo’s top staff has sent two detailed emails to employees in the department with directions on how to use commas correctly.

{mosads}The most recent email, from earlier this month, stated that Pompeo “has underscored the need for appropriate use of commas in his paper (both their inclusion and omission),” according to CNN.

It also stated that Pompeo prefers following the Chicago Manual of Style.

CNN reported that the email also included a number of examples of improper comma usage, including in the sentence, “The administration is committed to achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace agreement, and remains optimistic that progress can be made.”

The email states that there should be “no comma when single subject with compound predicate.”
