Florida man gets 20-year sentence after stealing $600 worth of cigarettes: report
A Florida man with an extensive criminal record was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday after stealing $600 worth of cigarettes, The Associated Press reports.
Robert Spellman, 48, received the lengthy sentence after a jury in Pensacola convicted him of burglary and grand theft last month.
{mosads}Late last year, Spellman stole 10 cartons of cigarettes from a stock room at a local convenience store, according to The Pensacola Journal.
Prior to his charges for the Dec. 28 incident, Spellman reportedly had 14 felony and 31 misdemeanor convictions.
As a result of Spellman’s criminal background, he was found qualified as an habitual felony offender and handed the 20-year sentence imposed by an Escambia County judge.
