Owner of 3D-printed gun company free on bond after arrest on charges of paying minor for sex

Cody Wilson, the owner of a company that distributes blueprints to produce 3D-printed guns, has reportedly been freed on bond following accusations of sexual assault involving an underage girl in Texas.

The Associated Press reported on Monday that Wilson was freed from the Harris County Jail on Sunday, just hours after he was jailed after being accused of paying a 16-year-old girl $500 to have sex with him.

{mosads}Wilson, who flew to Taiwan last week after learning he had been charged with sexual assault involving an underage girl, was arrested in Taiwan on Friday after his passport was annulled.

After Taiwanese authorities deported Wilson back to the United States, he was booked into jail on Sunday.

Wilson was freed from jail after posting a $150,000 bond, according to jail records obtained by the AP.

The 30-year-old founder of Defense Distributed was first investigated for the alleged sexual assault after a counselor contacted police in August to report the incident.

The minor in question was interviewed by police last week and a warrant was issued for Wilson’s arrest on Wednesday. But by that point, Wilson had already flown to Taiwan.

Wilson has been at the center of the debate over 3D-printed guns in recent months.

He said it is his First Amendment right to distribute instructions for citizens to produce the plastic guns on their own, though a judge previously barred Defense Distributed from uploading blueprints for 3D-printed firearms online.
