Several arrests made in connection with Charlottesville ‘Unite the Right’ rally: report

Multiple people were reportedly arrested on Tuesday stemming from the roles they allegedly played in the violent “Unite the Rally” in Charlottesville, Va., in 2017. 

Brian McGinn, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Virginia, told NBC News that the specific charges and the number of people taken into custody remained under seal. 

{mosads}But McGinn did confirm to the news network that the charges stemmed from the August 2017 rally, which turned deadly after a man drove his car into a crowd of people and killed a 32-year-old counterprotester, Heather Heyer.  

The new charges in relation to the rally are reportedly not linked to the death of Heyer. 

Four men — Cole Evan White, Benjamin Drake Daley, Michael Paul Miselis and Thomas Walter Gillen — were charged with conspiracy, according to HuffPost.

The news outlet reported that each man was identified as a marcher in either a torch rally at the University of Virginia or a gathering at a city park the next day.

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia Thomas Cullen and FBI assistant special agent in charge Thomas Chadwick are set to conduct a press conference on Tuesday afternoon to announce the charges.

In June, James Alex Fields, 21, was served with with a 30-count indictment by the Department of Justice for his actions during the far-right rally.

He was charged with 28 counts of hate crime acts causing bodily injury and involving an attempt to kill, one count of a hate crime resulting in the death of Heyer, and one count of racially motivated violent interference with a federally protected activity.
