Parody song mocking ‘scary time’ for men goes viral

A parody song mocking President Trump’s statement that it is a “scary time” for men given the accusations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has gone viral, gathering more than 15 million views as of Tuesday.

The song, titled “A Scary Time,” was released on social media by Lynzy Lab Stewart, a dancer and singer-songwriter from Texas.

{mosads}“I can’t walk to my car late at night while on the phone, I can’t open up my windows when I’m home alone, I can’t go to a bar without a chaperone and I can’t wear a mini skirt if its the only one I own,” Stewart sings to the picking of a ukulele.

She sings that she can’t use public transportation after 7 p.m. or dance with her friends while leaving her drink unattended “but it sure is a scary time for boys.”

“It’s really tough when your reputation’s on the line and any woman you’ve assaulted could turn up anytime,” she sings.

Lab Stewart pauses towards the end of the song and turns it into a call for women to vote in next month’s midterm elections.

“It’s not such a scary time for boys, they’re always had the upper hand, they’ve always had a choice,” she sings.

“It’s time for women to rise up, use our collective voice, the day to vote’s November 6, so let’s go make some noise.”

The song was shared by NowThis Politics and has more than 14 million Facebook views as of Tuesday morning.

Actor Mark Ruffalo shared the song on Twitter Sunday night.

Trump, who himself has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen women, spoke out in defense of his Supreme Court nominee after three women publicly accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

“It is a very scary time for young men in America, when you can be guilty of something you may not be guilty of,” Trump told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House last week.

Trump said Kavanaugh had been treated unfairly as the FBI investigated the claims.

“It’s a very scary situation where you’re guilty until proven innocent,” the president said. “That is a very, very difficult standard.”

Kavanaugh was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday with a 50-48 vote and was sworn in later the same day.

During a ceremonial even at the White House on Monday night, Trump said Kavanaugh and his family deserved an apology “for the terrible pain and suffering you have been forced to endure.”
