Michelle Obama on if she’ll run for office: ‘Absolutely not’

Former first lady Michelle Obama on Thursday shut down speculation that she may run for office someday.

In an interview on NBC News’ TODAY, Obama responded firmly to a question on if she’ll ever run: “Absolutely not.”

As a woman, you understand where your voice works best, where you want to operate, what space you want to be in,” the former first lady told hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

{mosads}”I want to serve, I want to do work, I want to be out there, but there’s so many ways to make an impact, politics is just not my thing,” she added.

Obama has said a number of times that she has no plans to enter politics, but doesn’t appear to have convinced supporters who want to see the former first lady step into the political spotlight. The TODAY crowd erupted in cheers when Guthrie asked if she would run.

After leaving the White House, Obama has continued work on women and girls’ issues, as well as voter registration efforts. On Thursday, International Day of the Girl, she announced a new project, the Global Girls Alliance.

She is also soon embarking on a 10-city book tour to promote her new memoir, “Becoming.”
