Mother of Thousand Oaks shooting victim she says survived Las Vegas massacre: ‘I want gun control’
A mother of one of the 12 people killed in a mass shooting at a popular bar in a Los Angeles suburb on Wednesday night is demanding more gun control after his death.
“I have two words: gun control,” Susan Orfanos, the mother of shooting victim Telemachus Orfanos, told BuzzFeed News on Thursday. “Now, now, now, now. No more NRA. No more money. Gun control now.”
{mosads}Orfanos said her son also attended the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas last year, surviving what has been declared the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
But Orfanos said her son never returned from the popular Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Wednesday night after a gunman opened fire inside the bar and killed 12 people.
“I don’t want prayers. I don’t want thoughts,” Orfanos said in an interview with a local ABC station shortly after the death of her son. “I want gun control.”

“I hope to God nobody else sends me any more prayers,” Orfanos continued. “I want gun control — no more guns.”
Orfanos’s remarks arrive as public support for various gun control measures has risen in recent months in the wake of several high-profile mass shootings.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who plans to return as Speaker in the next Congress, declared a day after the California shooting that gun control will be a priority under the newly elected Democratic majority.
