‘Little Free Library’ honoring Michelle Obama vandalized with Trump’s name

A “Little Free Library” that honors former First Lady Michelle Obama was vandalized earlier this month, with the name “Obama” being crossed out and replaced with President Trump’s.

The Washington Post reported that the library, which was created in 2017 in Northwest Washington, D.C., has been the target of vandalism multiple times this year.

{mosads}The small glass window for the library, which holds about 20 books, was smashed during the spring, according to the Post. A plaque commemorating Obama was removed over the summer. And an image of Obama was also torn down after neighbors replaced the vandalized plaque with a picture of her.

In November, Obama’s name, which appeared to be painted at the top of the structure, was crossed out. A vandal reportedly wrote “Trump’s” beside it in what appears to be black marker.

“Who would do that?” Maureen Dolan-Galaviz, who built the library outside her home, told The Washington Post. “If there is one thing that should be off limits it’s the idea that we all deserve access to books.”

Dolan-Galaviz erected the Little Free Library just a week after Trump’s inauguration and dedicated to Obama by placing a plaque with her name atop the structure.

“In Honor of Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama,” it said. “Lawyer, writer, and First Lady of the United States.”

Dolan-Galaviz added that she thought Washington D.C., “was reeling from the realization that the Obamas were going to be out” of the White House.

“This was a way of saying, ‘We are still here.’ It was a little act of, not rebellion, but standing our ground.”

Police told The Post that they have received zero reports related to the incidents.
