Green Bay Packers players launch crowdfunding campaign to assist California wildfire victims

A group of Green Bay Packers players joined together to launch a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for those impacted by the California wildfires.

The team created a GoFundMe page on Nov. 21 with the goal of raising $50,000. As of Sunday evening, the campaign had raised more than $11,000.

{mosads}”The recent wildfires in California have been devastating to many,” a message on the site’s crowdfunding page reads. “People have lost their lives, their homes, their most valued possessions and memories. They need our help.

“Several players on the Green Bay Packers have a real emotional connection to California. Some were born, raised and reside in California. Some attended school and played college football in California. Please help the Packers in their efforts to raise money to help those in California who are in desperate need of our assistance right now.”

Mercedes Lewis and Lance Kendricks, a pair of Green Bay Packers players who have homes in southern California, helped launch the campaign.

Lance’s wife, Danielle and Marcedes’ girlfriend, Brittany, told Fox News 11 that the proceeds would go to North Valley Community Foundation, a group working directly with fire evacuation centers.

The added that they can hopefully have funds that can go to people impacted by the Woolsey Fire in Southern California as well.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection announced on Sunday that the Camp Fire fire in northern California was fully contained.

The development came after it killed at least 85 people and left hundreds unaccounted for. The fire has also destroyed nearly 14,000 homes.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a native of northern California, said last week that he was donating $1 million to those impacted by the fires.

In a message to his Twitter followers, he also said that State Farm Insurance would donate a dollar for each retweet of his post accompanied by the hashtag #RetweetForGood.
