Over $60K donated anonymously to ensure destruction of guns used in Las Vegas shooting

An anonymous donor gave $62,500 to ensure that the guns used in the Las Vegas shooting are destroyed.

CNN reported on Sunday that the guns owned by shooter Stephen Paddock, valued at $62,300, will be destroyed following the donation, pending court approval.

{mosads}Alice Denton, the attorney for the special administrator of Paddock’s estate, told CNN that the funds were deposited in the trust account she oversees, and she expects a court hearing on the matter to take place in March.

The donor, identified only as a San Francisco software executive, reportedly told the New York Times he wanted to “alleviate some of the pain” for the victim’s families.

“I think the families would feel better if the weapons are gone,” he said.

The Las Vegas shooting, on Oct. 1, 2017, was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, with 58 people killed.

If the judge decides against allowing the guns to be destroyed, the money would be returned to the anonymous donor, and the guns could auctioned.

“The question becomes, if we liquidate these guns and sell these guns, which is required as part of the special administrator’s duty, we will be perpetuating the violence that actually caused the death of those individuals,” Denton told CNN earlier this month.
