Trump denies involvement in Kushner security clearance application

President Trump said in an interview with the New York Times Thursday that he had no role in advising the White House to give his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner a top-level security clearance.

Reports emerged last week that two White House security specialists initially rejected Kushner’s application before being overruled by the head of the president’s personnel security office.

{mosads}Kushner was granted a permanent security clearance in May after working more than a year for the Trump administration.

According to reports, multiple parts of Kushner’s application, especially his foreign contacts, had raised flags for authorities.

NBC News reported that the CIA questioned the president’s son-in-law receiving the clearance.

Democrats in the House announced last week that they are launching an investigation into the White House security clearance process, accusing the Trump administration of disregarding established protocols in a way that has resulted in “grave breaches of national security.”
