Longtime sportscaster Warner Wolf has been charged with a felony after allegedly damaging a sign at his Florida gated community that he reportedly considers racist.
The 81-year-old Wolf surrendered last Thursday on a felony criminal mischief charge, according to The Associated Press.
He was released on a $5,000 bond, according to BuzzFeed News.
{mosads}Police say surveillance video shows Wolf removing the word “plantation” from the gate at Classics Plantation Estates in Naples.
The sheriff’s department said that Wolf, who announced Major League Baseball and the Olympics for ABC, in addition to a number of other sports, had long criticized the community’s name at local meetings, considering it racist, according to reports.
Authorities said that Wolf handed the removed letters to a security guard near the sign, instructing the guard to give them to the property manager.
He allegedly caused more than $1,000 in damage to the sign.
