State Dept. official suggested sending rocket-shaped cookies to countries around Iran: CNN

A staff member at the State Department suggested last year that the U.S. send rocket-shaped cookies to countries near Iran, CNN reported Sunday.

The revelation came in a new report detailing the State Department’s social media campaign against Iran.

CNN reported that political appointees at the department have sometimes come up with ideas for digital content that have been shut down completely because the ideas were “overboard.”

{mosads}In one instance, according to CNN, a political appointee at the department suggested calling a Persian bakery in Washington and having it make rocket-shaped cookies to send to countries within missile-launching range of Iran.

The idea was reportedly shut down, and diplomats told CNN that they’ve had to reject other similar ideas.

The U.S. has experienced heightened tensions with Iran under the Trump administration. President Trump last year pulled the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal, which exchanged sanctions relief with Iran for restrictions on its nuclear program.

Trump has since imposed sanctions on Iran and the two countries have exchanged threats with each other.
