Police in the United Kingdom are treating a stabbing outside of London as an incident of terrorism “inspired by the far-right.”
Head of counter-terrorism policing Neil Basu said Sunday that the stabbing had “hallmarks of a terror event.” He added that the “police are committed to tackling all forms of toxic extremist ideology,” according to the Associated Press.
{mosads}Basu’s remarks come a day after a 50-year-old man was arrested in Stanwell, which is west of London, on suspicion of attempted murder and racially aggravated public order offenses.
The suspect allegedly shouted “kill a Muslim” during the attack on Saturday, according to The Independent.
A 19-year-old was taken to the hospital after the incident with non-life-threatening injuries.
Basu reportedly did not make any other details about the attack immediately available.
