Police investigate officer shown on video hitting woman during street brawl

The Chester Police Department in Pennsylvania has opened an investigation after a video surfaced showing one of its officers striking a woman in the face with a stun gun while authorities were responding to a St. Patrick’s Day party that got out of control.

In a statement posted on the department’s Facebook page, police say the woman in the video, identified as 20-year-old Dominique Difiore, hit the unnamed officer while he was attempting to arrest her. The 27-second video shows the officer hitting Difiore in the face.

The video was posted to social media Saturday and had almost 3 million views as of Monday.

The incident, the video, and level of force used in connection with the event are all currently under investigation,” Chester Police Chief James Nolan wrote on Facebook. “Police are still conducting investigations to determine if other persons will be charged in relation to the events of the day.”

The video shows Difiore immediately falling to the ground after being hit. Officers then handcuffed her.

Police said several people, including Difiore, were arrested on various charges, including aggravated assault and alcohol-related offenses.
