West Virginia assistant principal loses job after after allegedly telling trans student ‘you freak me out’

An assistant principal at a West Virginia high school will not have his employment contract renewed after allegedly following a transgender student into the bathroom and telling him “you freak me out.”

The board of education in Harrison County, West Virginia, voted to not renew for Lee Livengood, who previously served as assistant principal at Liberty high School, according to the Associated Press.

Livengood was given a four-day suspension late last year after the incident occurred.

{mosads}Livengood allegedly attempted to make 15-year-old student Michael Critchfield prove his gender by asking him to use a urinal.

“I felt really degraded and discriminated against,” Critchfield said, adding that he was traumatized by the experience.

Critchfield said Livengood repeatedly yelled at him when he was in the men’s bathroom, saying, “Why are you in here? You shouldn’t be in here.”

Livengood’s contract expires June 30 of this year. The decision not to renew his contract by the education board was reportedly unanimous.

The AP reports that the board’s decision was preceded by a petition delivered to them by the American Civil Liberties Union that was signed by more than 1,100 people urging the board not to renew the contract.
