Post office to release new stamp honoring George H.W. Bush in June

The U.S. Postal Service has announced a new stamp honoring former President George H.W. Bush.

The commemorative Forever stamp features a portrait of the late president, who died in November at the age of 94.

The portrait was painted by artist Michael J. Deas, and is based on a 1997 photograph taken by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, according to USPS.

{mosads}USPS praised Bush as “an advocate for public service” in a release, and noted his leadership “through the end of the Cold War,” saying Bush “drove the creation of a multinational coalition that successfully forced Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait in the Persian Gulf War.”

The stamp, designed by art director and stamp designer Phil Jordan, will be released on Bush’s birthday, June 12, but is currently available for pre-order.

The stamp was unveiled at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas on Saturday, according to a tweet from longtime Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath.
