Additional victims of Waffle House shooting sue alleged gunman’s father

Two lawsuits have been filed against the father of Travis Reinking, the man accused of killing four people in a shooting at a Waffle House in Tennessee last April.

The suits, filed Monday on the first anniversary of the shooting, name Jeffrey Reinking and accuse him of illegally transferring an AR-15 rifle allegedly used in the attack to his son in November 2017, months before the shooting, after his son had been a patient in Illinois’s mental health system, according to the Peoria Journal Star.

{mosads}Authorities had previously taken his sons guns away after Travis Reinking’s firearms license had been revoked at the recommendation of the FBI, but Jeffrey Reinking reportedly supplied several of the weapons to his son months before the attacks occurred.

Travis Reinking originally had his license revoked earlier that year after he was arrested outside the White House by Secret Service for being in a restricted area.

One of the two lawsuits filed Monday also names the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office as a defendant. Jeffrey Reinking now faces several lawsuits related to the shooting in both Illinois and Nashville, where the attack occurred.

Tennessee authorities previously said that it didn’t appear as if Travis Reinking had violated any laws by owning the weapons, but it is against Illinois law to sell or give a firearm to someone who has been a patient in a mental health treatment facility within five years.
