Feds charge Rhode Island man who allegedly threatened to kill and eat a pro-choice college professor

Federal authorities have charged a Rhode Island man who is accused of threatening to rape, kill and eat a college professor with pro-choice views, according to MassLive.

Matthew Haviland, who was charged with cyberstalking and sending threatening messages, allegedly wrote in a March email to the unidentified professor that the professor and others with left-wing views deserved to be “slaughtered,” according to the report.

{mosads}“You will have your face ripped off and eaten by me, personally,” Haviland is accused of writing. “I will enjoy raping your body after you’re dead.”

Haviland, who went to college in Boston, was arrested Wednesday on charges of cyberstalking and transmitting a threat in interstate commerce.

In another email to the professor in March, Haviland allegedly wrote that he would “kill every Democrat in the world so we never more have to have our babies brutally murdered by you absolute terrorists.”

“I will enjoy ripping the skin from your bodies piece by piece while you scream in agony,” he added, according to authorities.

Officer Richard Laft Jr. of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force wrote in an affidavit that the professor was “very concerned” about the emails, MassLive reported.

“Victim 1 stated that he/she expects some hate mail and has a very high tolerance for it, but is very fearful for himself/herself and his/her family as a result of the March 10 emails from Haviland’s email account,” Laft added.

A longtime friend of Haviland reportedly told authorities that the suspect had recently exhibited erratic behavior and expressed opinions tied to “extreme” political views. Haviland was also recently accused of leaving over 100 voicemail messages to a Rhode Island abortion clinic, though he told police that he did not intend to harm anyone. Authorities have made repeated wellness checks on Haviland in recent months, according to the report.
