Bredesen: Tennessee is Tough but Competitive for Obama
Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) said that his state is still up for grabs in the presidential election and that Barack Obama is trying to understand how to reach out to centrist voters.
“I certainly think it’s competitive,” he said on Fox News on Monday. “It’s a tough state for Sen. Obama, I certainly would have to agree that. But, I think that if he can say something to some of these rural and conservative voters in a state like Tennessee, you might not win Tennessee, but you got those same voters and it could really make the difference in a North Carolina or Virginia, or an Ohio for that matter.”
Bredesen had said two weeks ago that Obama was “not real competitive” in Tennessee.
He also said on Monday that Obama was doing a good job of reaching out to governors in middle America.
“For example, we all met here for about a week ago for dinner with him, and he’s trying to understand how you win in these states and particularly how Democratic governors are winning in these states,” Bredesen said.
