Hollywood elementary school votes to keep Michael Jackson’s name on auditorium
An elementary school in Hollywood, Calif. voted Saturday to keep Michael Jackson’s name on its auditorium despite sexual misconduct claims levied against the late pop star, the Los Angeles Time reported.
The majority of parents and staff of Gardner Street Elementary School, which Jackson briefly attended, voted to keep his name above the auditorium.
“A majority of those who participated voted to maintain the current name as the Michael Jackson Auditorium,” the Los Angeles Unified School District said in a statement, according to the Times.
{mosads}“School leaders, teachers and support staff will focus on preventing any further disruptions to the school and further impact to classroom instruction, student learning and safety.”
Discussions over allegations against Jackson have re-entered the national discussion following the HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland,” which contains extensive interviews with two men who allege the entertainer molested them as children.
Jackson’s estate has denied the allegations, for which the pop singer was never charged.
