New Cantonese opera tells story of Trump’s fictional long-lost twin, Chuan Pu

A new Cantonese opera tells the story of President Trump’s fictional long-lost twin, Chuan Pu, who was raised in China. 

In the opera, Chuan Pu, who has yellow hair and wears a red tie, works at a a crematory, where he meets the undead body of Chinese politician Liu Shaoqi, who was killed during the Cultural Revolution, according to The New York Times. 

The show also contains fictional depictions of a White House visit by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, a pingpong match between former President Richard Nixon, Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong and Abraham Lincoln’s ghost. 

“It’s crazy,” the show’s librettist, Li Kui-ming, told the Times. Li has taken over the lease of the Sunbeam Theater, where the opera is shown. 

Li had previously written an opera about Mao and told the Times he saw similarities between Mao and Trump. 

“This is the part where most old men will do some crazy things, at the age of 72,” he said. “Chairman Mao and Donald Trump, they are similar. They are arousing a revolution by neglecting the government and neglecting everybody and doing what they think.”

The show’s opening run was sold out, the newspaper reported, but another one is scheduled for next year. Li told the Times he hopes to one day bring it to the U.S.
