Herman Cain: Black Americans ‘brainwashed’ by media to hate Trump
Herman Cain, President Trump’s former nominee to serve on the Federal Reserve Board, said Tuesday that black Americans have been “brainwashed” by the national press to hate Trump.
The former presidential candidate and pizza tycoon was asked by TMZ why more African Americans do not hold favorable views of Trump despite what Cain said was important work on criminal justice reform and other issues.
{mosads}”They’re getting brainwashed according to the news that they watch,” Cain said. “It’s been statistically shown that certain stations, certain news outlets, they simply are not telling the entire truth. And in some cases, people are being brainwashed.”
Cain’s remarks follow his withdrawal from consideration to serve on the Federal Reserve’s board of governors, a position Trump nominated him for in April, only for Cain to withdraw after critics questioned his vocal support of the president and past conduct with women.
Cain’s appointment to the board looked unlikely due to resistance from GOP senators who sought to see the Fed’s board remain an apolitical body.
Trump eventually announced Cain’s withdrawal in a tweet just days after the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO told Fox Business Network that he wouldn’t “run away from criticism” and that withdrawing was “not in [his] nature.”
“My friend Herman Cain, a truly wonderful man, has asked me not to nominate him for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board. I will respect his wishes. Herman is a great American who truly loves our Country!” Trump tweeted last month.
