Egypt on Sunday saw the second explosion in six months targeting a tour bus near the great pyramids, according to media reports.

The explosion near Giza’s pyramids injured at least 12 people, according to Reuters, citing security sources. The majority of the injured were foreign tourists, with no deaths reported.

“We are not aware of any injuries to U.S. citizens at this time,” the U.S. Embassy in Cairo told reporters. It was unclear whether there were any American citizens on the bus.

{mosads}In December 2018, a Giza bombing killed three Vietnamese tourists and an Egyptian tour bus driver, injuring 11 other Vietnamese tourists. In response, Egyptian security forces killed 40 terrorism suspects the next day in three separate incidents in Giza and North Sinai.

Egypt’s interior ministry did not confirm whether any suspects involved in the bus attack were killed at the time. The raids were “a continuation of the ministry’s efforts in chasing terrorist elements involved in the implementation of hostile operations seeking to destabilize the country’s security,” the ministry said.
