AARP, Des Moines Register to host presidential forums in Iowa
The AARP and the Des Moines Register will hold Democratic presidential forums across Iowa this summer, according to a USA Today report Tuesday.
Twenty presidential hopefuls have agreed to take questions from audiences and moderators Kathie Obradovich, the Des Moines Register’s opinion editor, and Kay Henderson, news director of Radio Iowa, between July 15 and 20, according to the report.
{mosads}“These forums will put candidates on the record, and older voters will be watching,” John Hishta, AARP senior vice president of campaigns, said in a statement, the Des Moines Register reported Tuesday.
Each candidate will have 25 minutes to address 200 to 250 Iowan AARP members, in Iowa cities like Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Sioux City. The events will be livestreamed on the Des Moines Register’s website.
The AARP has also invited President Trump to speak with its members before the November 2020 election.
The events will include a number of 2020 Democratic front-runners including former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), as well as campaigns still trying to gain traction like Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
