German circus opts for cruelty-free holograms instead of live animals

A circus in Germany has opted to use holograms to put on a show without harming animals.

{mosads}The Circus Roncalli, which was founded in 1976, recently switched from using live animals to holographic displays for its performances, BuzzFeed reported. The circus reportedly started slowly phasing out live animals from its show in the 1990s.

Many animal rights activists praised the move, with one Twitter user saying “this is the way forward” and that “all circuses should follow suit.”

While technology is used to recreate the animals used in the show, the circus has non-automated clowns, acrobats, magicians and other usual acts.
