German chancellor denies health concerns after she’s spotted shaking at ceremony

German Chancellor Angela Merkel denied any health problems after visibly shaking at a state event Tuesday.

Merkel, 64, greeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin on Tuesday while a military band played the countries’ national anthems. Merkel appeared to be pursing her lips and shaking in the 82-degree weather, according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}NBC News shared footage of the German leader on Twitter.

But after the performance, Merkel was reportedly better, walking with Zelensky into the country’s chancellery before the leaders appeared at a joint press conference. Merkel told a reporter at the briefing she was fine, the AP reported.

“Since then I’ve drunk at least three glasses of water, which I apparently needed, and now I’m doing very well,” Merkel said.

Zelensky also told reporters Merkel was “totally safe” by his side.

This trip marks Zelensky’s first visit to the German capital as president, the AP reported. Merkel and the Ukrainian leader reportedly discussed bilateral issues and the Minsk peace process.
