Prosecutors say Gómez hired a hit man to target David Fernandez, who was with Ortiz during the night of the shooting.{mosads}
Gómez is accused of ordering the killing because he thought Fernandez turned him in to Dominican investigators in 2011, CNN reports.
Gómez is also being sought by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and allegedly ordered the killing from the United States, according to the report.
At least 11 suspects have been detained in connection with the shooting, which took place on the night of June 9 at a bar in east Santo Domingo.
Ortiz was not the target but was shot point-blank in the back. He has since returned to Boston, where he is in recovery.
