Ocasio-Cortez invites the US women’s soccer team to visit Congress after France win
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) invited the U.S. women’s soccer team to tour Congress days after co-captain Megan Rapinoe turned down an invitation to the White House.
“It may not be the White House, but we’d be happy to welcome [Rapinoe] & the entire #USWMNT for a tour of the House of Representatives anytime they’d like,” the freshman lawmaker tweeted Friday.

Rapinoe accepted the New York Democrat’s offer in a reply.
“Consider it done @AOC,” she tweeted.

{mosads}Earlier Friday, the U.S. women’s team beat France to advance in the World Cup, with Rapinoe scoring twice to lead the team to a 2-1 victory.
Ocasio-Cortez’s invitation comes on the heels of a spat between Rapinoe and President Trump.
Rapinoe said earlier this week in a video by soccer publication Eight by Eight that she’s “not going to the f—ing White House” if the U.S. women’s national team wins the World Cup.
Trump hit back at Rapinoe, tweeting that “leagues and teams love coming to the White House” and that he is a “big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer,” but warned that “Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!”
“We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose,” he tweeted.
Rapinoe reaffirmed her remarks Thursday, saying she “stand[s] by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s ally in Congress Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) said she would also welcome Rapinoe’s team.
.@AOC no doubt the food & the company would be much better. I’ll bring the red velvet cake. @mPinoe your squad in? ⚽️ https://t.co/coryII5q8a
