Man attempts to rob store to pay for daughter’s kidney transplant: police

Police are searching for a man who they say attempted to rob a Philadelphia store at gunpoint to get money for his daughter’s kidney transplant, CBS Philly reports.

Surveillance video shows that the man, who was wearing a green hooded jacket, walked into the smoke shop and approached the counter with his handgun drawn. He demanded cash from the woman behind the counter.

The man eventually had at least a couple of hundred dollars in his hand, but that’s when he became friendly and said the cash in the register wouldn’t be enough to fund his daughter’s operation, the network reports.{mosads}

Then, the attempted robber left the store — without the money.

The store owner, whose full name wasn’t revealed, said the exchange was “unbelievable” because the attempted robber “actually had the money in his hand and refused to take it,” according to WWBT.

Police are still searching for the man, who violated the law by committing a robbery “even though he didn’t walk away with anything,” Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew told CBS Philly.

“If you are going to commit a robbery, I guess the best type of robbery to commit is one where you don’t complete it and change your mind,” he said.
