Author and reporter Vegas Tenold said Monday on MSNBC that President Trump’s remarks on race go beyond those of neo-Nazis.
“We’re at a point where Trump is more racist than neo-Nazis,” Tenold said during an interview on “MSNBC Live with Katy Tur” when asked about Trump’s recent tweets saying four minority congresswomen should “go back” to their home countries, even though all are U.S. citizens.
{mosads}”We’ve known for a long time that he is a racist, and ‘go back to where you came from’ is peak racism,” said Tenold, the author of “Everything You Love Will Burn” who has embedded with white nationalists in his reporting.
Tenold said he has heard neo-Nazi leaders say Trump sometimes goes too far, and that they have alleged Trump is more racist than they are.
“I’ve been to Klan rallies where they’ve said these things,” Tenold added. “I’ve heard a lot of the stuff that Trump is saying, that he believes, the policies he’s trying to implement, it’s been said to me at Nazi barbeques and Klan rallies. These are the things they want to happen.”
Trump has denied that his comments were racist, accusing Democrats of calling “their adversaries” racist “whenever confronted.”
