Ann Coulter offers rare praise for Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter praised Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, for voting “for the American worker” Tuesday for their vote against a bipartisan bill aimed at reducing green card backlogs.

“Wow. 140 Republicans voted to sell out the American worker with H.R. 1044 (removing country caps for cheap foreign labor), while Ilhan and Rashida voted FOR the American worker (among only 8 Dems),” Coulter tweeted Tuesday morning.

H.R. 1044, the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019, passed the House 365-65 last Wednesday.{mosads}

The legislation would eliminate the annual 7 percent cap on green cards for citizens of one country and raise the per-country cap for family-sponsored green cards from 7 percent to 15 percent.

“In order for American industries to remain competitive and create more jobs, they must be able to recruit and retain the best talent in the world,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), who co-sponsored the bill, said in a statement last week. The bill would particularly benefit Indian and Chinese nationals living in the U.S., who face the longest green card waits.

Coulter’s tweet comes as Omar and Tlaib are the targets of a series of tweets from President Trump accusing them and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) of hating America and telling them to “go back” to other countries. All four members are U.S. citizens and only Omar was born abroad.
