New report shows three times as many girls report being cyberbullied than boys
Girls who are bullied have reported being cyberbullied at three times the rate of boys.
Overall, about 20 percent of students aged 12 through 18 reported being bullied, including nearly 17 percent of boys and 24 percent of girls, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics.
{mosads}Of the students who said they were bullied, more than 21 percent of female students and nearly 7 percent of male students reported being bullied online or through text messages.
In total, more than 15 percent of bullied students said the harassment came virtually.
Cyberbullying has increased in recent years. According to the The Associated Press, a past survey from the 2014-2015 school year found that just 11.5 percent of bullied students reported being bullied online.
During that school year 16 percent of bullied girls and 6 percent of bullied boys were victims of cyberbullying.
The studies do not show which gender was behind the bullying. Kind campaign founder Lauren Paul told the AP, however, that 90 percent of stories she hears are of girls being bullied by other girls.
