Gorilla believed to be oldest in captivity dies

The gorilla believed to be the oldest one captive in the world, has died.

Trudy, estimated to be age 63, was a Western lowland gorilla living at the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas.

“The Zoo is sad to announce the passing of Trudy, the grand dame of @LittleRockZoo,” the zoo tweeted Friday. “You will be missed, sweet girl.”

Trudy was brought from Africa as an infant in 1957, according to the zoo’s website. She had been living in Little Rock since 1988. She had a mate named Ollie and also had a male companion called Brutus. {mosads}

She and Ollie were the first gorillas exhibited in Arkansas.
