Iowa Cubs to change name to Iowa Caucuses for Labor Day weekend game

The minor league baseball team Iowa Cubs will play as the Iowa Caucuses for their August 30 game, the team announced Wednesday.

The temporary name change is part of a tradition among minor league teams in keeping with seasonal events, according to Minor League Baseball, which pointed to the Louisville Bats changing their names to the Mint Juleps around the time of the Kentucky Derby.

The team will also temporarily add stars and stripes elements to its pinstriped uniforms and a “First in the Nation” alternate logo above numbers on the backs of the uniforms, according to the statement.
