Scaramucci says trip to El Paso hospital a ‘catastrophe’ for Trump

Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci called President Trump’s visit at an El Paso, Texas, hospital this week to visit with the survivors of a mass shooting a “catastrophe.” 

“So, look, the president didn’t do well on the trip. He probably would be mad at somebody for saying that,” he said on MSNBC on Thursday.

{mosads}“Maybe he’ll tweet something negative about somebody for saying he didn’t do well, but the facts are he did not do well on the trip because if the trip is being made about him and not the demonstration of compassion and love and caring and empathy for those people, then it becomes a catastrophe for him, the administration, and it’s also a bad reflection on the country.” 

Scaramucci, who served in the administration for 11 days in 2017, also tore into White House staffers who anonymously trashed the appearance to reporters as “cowards.” 

Trump has received blowback over his trip to the El Paso hospital, particularly after a leaked video showed him touting the size of a crowd at a rally of his in the city earlier this year.

“I was here three months ago and we made a speech,” Trump said. “What was the name of the arena? That place was packed.”

Trump went on to knock former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas), who represented El Paso in Congress and is running for president, as “crazy.”

Scaramucci has broken with his former boss in the past, saying in July that Trump was “turning into” a racist.
