Joe Walsh says he lost his national radio show

Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), who announced a primary challenge to President Trump over the weekend, said Monday evening he has lost his national talk radio show.

“I just got a notice before I came in the studio. I’m running for president. I oppose this president. Most of my listeners support the president. It’s not an easy thing to do to be in conservative talk radio and oppose this president,” Walsh told “Anderson Cooper 360” guest host John Berman.

Salem Radio Network announced earlier Monday that it was canceling national distribution of the show effective Sept. 26.

“This announcement does not affect Walsh’s local program airing on AM 560 The Answer in Chicago, however Walsh’s program will have to be removed as soon as he becomes a viable and legal candidate for President,” the announcement states.

Walsh has a history of making controversial comments, both on Twitter and on his radio show, that did not lead to similar consequences, including an incident in which he was temporarily booted from the air for using a slur to describe African Americans in what he claimed was an attempt to illustrate double standards.

A onetime vocal supporter of Trump as a candidate and president, Walsh has recently become an outspoken critic of him and said he regrets some of his earlier rhetoric, conceding it may have helped pave the way for Trump’s ascendancy within the party.
