‘Trump 2020’ brick removed from Florida town’s public walkway
A personalized brick that promoted President Trump’s 2020 reelection bid was removed from a Florida town’s public walkway following backlash from residents.
Afien Casey’s brick along the walkway of New Smyrna Beach read “Trump 2020, Drain Swamp, Brandon & Oma.” Brandon is Casey’s grandson and he refers to her as Oma, according to local outlet WFTV.
{mosads}Personalized bricks fill the walkway of Flagler Avenue and have done so for more than 30 years, and Casey is frustrated that her “Trump 2020” brick was removed.
“I can’t believe it! Nobody called me to say that there was any problem, I didn’t know,” Casey, who bought the brick for $95 through the Flagler Avenue Business Association, told local outlet News 6.
The Flagler Avenue Business Association gave News 6 a statement saying it was revising the guidelines regarding its personalized brick program.
“These updated guidelines will reinforce the program’s original intent. Once the guidelines have been established, implementation will be expected to occur immediately,” it said.
The Hill has reached out to the association for comment.
Casey said the brick was ultimately returned to her but she does not want her money back, she simply wants it put back in its place on the walkway.
She said if others can commemorate loved ones or special occasions on the personalized bricks, she should be able to as well.
“That was not my political agenda. This was love for loved ones,” Casey said. “I love President Trump, too.”
