Clinton: New probe into emails a ‘real’ witch hunt

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a new interview that she believed the renewed probe into her emails is a “real” witch hunt, using a phrase often used by President Trump to describe investigations targeting him. 

“It’s a witch hunt,” Clinton told NowThis News. “It’s a real one, unlike the kind of things Trump talks about.”

The 2016 Democratic presidential nominee added that her reaction to the inquiry was “bewilderment and disappointment.”{mosads}

 “It is meant to raise the specter about my emails, which were investigated endlessly,”  she said. 

Clinton also called the probe “crazy like a fox.”

“If the Republicans and Trump and his supporters in the media can muddy the waters and raise all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories, then maybe people won’t pay attention to the danger he poses to our country,” she said.

The State Department has reportedly escalated an investigation into Clinton’s private email server, contacting dozens of former aides involved in exchanges on the server. The Washington Post reported up to 130 former Clinton aides were contacted by the department and many were told they are “culpable” for sending information that should have been classified at a higher level. 

Ahead of the 2016 presidential election, Trump frequently went after Clinton’s use of a private email server and his fans often chanted “Lock her up.” The FBI concluded in 2016 that she didn’t commit any crimes, but said her use of the server was “reckless.”

The renewed probe comes as Trump faces an impeachment inquiry and other scrutiny over his dealings with Ukraine. He has specifically been accused of asking the country’s president to probe Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and the former vice president’s son for his personal gain. Trump has denied wrongdoing and called the impeachment inquiry a “witch hunt.”
