Cruz, Graham send well wishes to Sanders after heart procedure

GOP Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.) sent their best wishes to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) after he was hospitalized and underwent a procedure this week.

“Heidi & I are lifting up Bernie in prayer. May God’s healing hand be upon him, and may he recover soon,” Cruz tweeted Wednesday.

Graham also tweeted at the Vermont senator on Wednesday, sharing “Wishing Senator @BernieSanders a quick and speedy recovery!”

{mosads}Sanders underwent a procedure to have two stents inserted to address an arterial blockage, according to his campaign. He was taken to the hospital after experiencing chest discomfort at a campaign event Tuesday.

Jeff Weaver, a senior adviser on the Sanders campaign, said in a Wednesday statement that Sanders would spend the next few days recovering, and his campaign events will be canceled until further notice.

“Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits,” Weaver said. “He will be resting up over the next few days. We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates.”

The campaign also said it postponed a $1.3 million television ad buy after the senator was hospitalized.

At 78 years old, Sanders is the oldest candidate in the 2020 presidential race. Although he has faced ailments like hernias and gout in the past, the Sanders campaign released a letter from his doctor during his 2016 campaign that he was in “very good health.”

Sanders has not released his medical records, although he has said that he will.
