An Oklahoma woman was arrested on charges of embezzling insurance money from an elderly survivor of the Camp Fire in California last year, officials announced Tuesday.

Brenda Rose Asbury, 29, was arrested on charges of elder abuse, embezzlement and grand theft after officials say she embezzled $63,100 from a 75-year-old survivor of the fire, a press release from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said. The money was a part of an insurance settlement that the survivor received after losing her home in the fire.

After police spoke to an Asbury’s attorney last week, she showed up at the county sheriff’s office on Nov. 4, saying she drove three days straight from Oklahoma. She was then arrested.

Asbury is expected to be arraigned on Thursday afternoon, according to the release.

The Camp Fire remains the most deadly wildfire in California, killing 85 people and consuming thousands of homes.
