Sandusky resentenced to at least 30 years in prison

Jerry Sandusky, the disgraced former Penn State football coach, on Friday was resentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison for molesting multiple boys. 

The punishment, reported by The Patriot-News, is the same sentence Sandusky was first handed seven years ago. Sandusky, 75, can be considered for parole in 23 years.

Sandusky had to be resentenced after a new law overturned the mandatory sentencing guidelines under which he was originally punished. 

A jury first convicted Sandusky in 2012 for a litany of child-sex crimes against clients of his youth charity from 1994 to 2008. Penn State has doled out over $100 million to more than 30 of his victims as a result of the scandal, which also led to the removal of head football coach Joe Paterno and the university’s president. 

Sandusky has maintained his innocence since the charges were first brought forth.
