VIDEO: McCain: Obama should call the Iranian election a ‘fraud’
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Tuesday offered a blistering criticism of the Iranian election and said President Obama should more forcefully condemn it.
McCain, speaking on NBC’s “Today” show, said the U.S. should “condemn the sham, corrupt election.”
“The president should speak out that this election is fraud,” the Republican said. “It is wrong. It’s a deprivation of the Iranian people of their basic human rights.”
McCain’s rhetoric was equally aggressive when asked about news that Iran’s Guardian Council reportedly agreed to a limited recount on Tuesday.
“Foxes are in charge of the hen house,” McCain said. “The Guardian Council are the same ones who were in charge of the election that had these very rapid election returns. And it’s clearly corrupt.”
On Monday, Obama said he is “deeply troubled” by the protests in Iran.
