Domino’s to hire 10,000 new employees in response to coronavirus

Domino’s Pizza projects it will hire approximately 10,000 workers in response to the coronavirus pandemic amid increased demand for food delivery services, the company said in a statement.

“Our corporate and franchise stores want to make sure they’re not only feeding people, but also providing opportunity to those looking for work at this time, especially those in the heavily-impacted restaurant industry,” CEO Ritch Allison said in a statement, CNBC reported.

The majority of Domino’s orders, 55 percent, are delivery, which has been in high demand as numerous bars and restaurants shut down dine-in service as part of efforts to practice social distancing and stem the spread of the virus. The chain has also introduced contact-free delivery in response to the outbreak.

Several states have ordered restaurants to shift to only carry-out or delivery services, and thousands of restaurant workers have been laid off amid the pandemic.
