Florida man arrested after allegedly stealing 66 rolls of toilet paper from hotel

A Florida man was arrested in Orlando for allegedly stealing 66 rolls of toilet paper from a hotel amid a nationwide shortage caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

A security guard for the Marriott Hotel in Orlando reportedly saw Angel Hernandezcinto, 31, pushing a trash can and bag inside his van, according to a Friday report from Fox 35 Orlando.

The guard looked through the car window and saw the bag was full of unused toilet paper rolls from the hotel.

Hernandezcinto, a reported cleaner at the hotel, allegedly admitted to the guard that he took 66 rolls of toilet paper, valued at $0.99 each.

He said he knew of a women who was poor and unemployed, telling officials that he wanted to help her family. An arrest report obtained by the outlet said Hernandezcinto apologized.

He was charged with theft from a public lodging establishment.

Thousands of Americans have stockpiled on supplies for home quarantines during the coronavirus pandemic, causing a shortage of toilet paper around the world.

The increased demand forced one Oregon police department to put out a public call online asking residents to stop calling 911 for toilet paper.
