Pregnant woman sick with COVID-19 gives birth while in coma: ‘I was very confused’

A new mother from Washington state currently fighting off the novel coronavirus said she woke up “very confused” recently after giving birth while under an induced coma.

Angela Primachenko told a local ABC station in an interview published on Tuesday that she had been hospitalized and placed on a ventilator recently after testing positive for the virus. At the time, Primachenko said she had been pregnant.

{mosads}”Like, you know that kind of cough. And then it kind of got a little bit worse, and then I started having a hard time breathing at night,” she recalled of her symptoms in the interview.

But at some point during her hospitalization, Primachenko went under an induced coma. While was in a coma, Primachenko, who had been 34 weeks along in her pregnancy then, said doctors had delivered her baby – something she hadn’t been aware until after waking up.

After she regained consciousness, Primachenko told the station she “wasn’t sure where” she was.

“I was very confused. I didn’t have a belly anymore, didn’t know where my baby was. I was in isolation. I hadn’t been able to see my husband,” she said.

Fortunately, Primachenko said she is currently on the road to recovery and has been able to return home.

“I’m just taking it every day at a time and just kind of trying to regain my strength and core and muscles,” she said.

However, Primachenko says she hasn’t been able to see her new daughter, Ava, yet given her current COVID-19 diagnosis. In the meantime, the station reports Ava is being monitored by staff at the hospital.
