Murkowski: Palin ‘abandoning’ Alaska
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) issued a strong rebuke to Sarah Palin tonight after the Alaska Governor announced that she would resign at the end of the month.
“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded,” Murkowski said in a brief statement.
There’s a bitter history between the two Alaska pols. Palin defeated Murkowski’s father, then-Gov. Frank Murkowski, in the 2006 Republican gubernatorial primary.
Moreover, some have speculated that Palin might take on Sen. Murkowski in a 2010 primary. Palin’s announcement today certainly hasn’t silenced those rumors.
