Trump to visit Asheville to tour hurricane devastation

Former President Trump will visit Asheville, N.C., a city devastated by Hurricane Helene last month, to deliver remarks and see the damage firsthand on Monday.

The visit will bring Trump to a part of a crucial swing state hit exceptionally hard by Helene.

Vice President Harris visited Asheville earlier this month to tour the devastation, as well.

“I think that these moments of crisis bring out some of the best of who we could be and who we are,” she said during her visit.

Trump had come under criticism from the editorial board of the Charlotte Observer, a major newspaper in North Carolina, for spreading misleading information about the hurricane and the response of the federal government.

“This is not a situation to capitalize on for political gain. But former President Donald Trump has politicized the situation at every turn, spreading falsehoods and conspiracies that fracture the community instead of bringing it together,” the board wrote.

Trump also is expected to deliver remarks at a rally in Greenville, N.C., on Monday afternoon.

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s polling average shows Trump leading in the state by 1 point.
