Georgetown coach and former Knicks star Patrick Ewing tests positive for coronavirus

Georgetown University basketball coach and former Knicks star Patrick Ewing announced Friday he has tested positive for the coronavirus

“I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19. This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly. I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones,” Ewing said in a statement.

Ewing is currently “under care and isolated at a local hospital,” the university said. He is the only member of the men’s basketball program to test positive for the virus.

Ewing had a storied 17-year career in the NBA and was named to 11 All-Star teams, appearing in the finals twice and winning two Olympic gold medals. He is a two-time inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame for his individual career and as part of the 1992 Olympic team.

He’s been the Georgetown University men’s basketball team’s coach since 2017.
