Gianna, 6-year-old daughter of George Floyd, says her ‘daddy changed the world’
A clip of Gianna Floyd, the 6-year-old daughter of George Floyd, smiling and saying her “daddy changed the world” is going viral online.
In footage of the moment, Giana could be seen making the comment while sitting on former NBA player Stephen Jackson’s shoulders. According to “Today,” Jackson was a friend of George Floyd.
While smiling, Giana is seen the short clip raising her arms and saying, “Daddy changed the world.”
“He did what?” a person off-screen is heard asking her.
“Daddy changed the world,” the 6-year-old said again, raising her arms.
The footage appears to have first surfaced on Instagram on Tuesday and has since been shared across Twitter among accounts belonging to figures like Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., Anderson Paak and more.
According to “Today,” the video was taken in Minneapolis on Tuesday, the same day Roxie Washington, Gianna’s mother, called for justice after George Floyd’s death.
“I’m here for my baby and I’m here for George because I want justice for him. I want justice for him because he was good. No matter what anybody thinks, he was good,” Washington said during a press event in the city Tuesday. “He loved her, he loved her so much.”
Jackson also delivered remarks at the event, during which he said he intends to walk Gianna “down the aisle” when she’s older.
“I’m going to be there for her. I’m going to be there to wipe your tears,” he added.
George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died shortly after a white officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck during an arrest in Minneapolis last week. In now-viral footage captured of the arrest, Floyd could be heard telling the officer he couldn’t breathe as he knelt on his neck.
The arrest has fueled protests against racism and police brutality in the U.S. over the past week.
